The secret garden – Illustration

As I have mentioned before, I am joining the #springawakeningmonth on instagram. Each Sunday during march, there will be an illustration fitting the prompt that is given. Because it is about spring, I immediately thought of the book „The secret Garden“ by Frances H. Burnett.
The first prompt is rainbow and I picked the moment at the beginning of the book. The start is quite gruesome. Mary Lennox is left alone in the house in India. Her parents disappear as does her nanny and all servants. She is left completely alone waiting for someone to remember her. Yet the only one who shows up is a snake.
Turns out, as Mary is finally found, all died of Cholera and she was the only survivor. A gruesome start it is indeed.
I colored the snake in rainbow colors to fit the prompt and to highlight that Mary, as harsh as her personality is described in the book, has a soft spot if some one is open minded and non judging.

The illustration is drawn on paper and colored with Acryl and Polychromo colored Pencils.

The next prompt is celebration. My illustration is not as intense as the word might give away. I drew Mary finding the key to the secret garden. It was a magical moment in the book and a true celebration in itself. Because this was the turning point in Marys life in Mistelthwaite.

The illustration is painted with acrylic paint and polychromo colored pencil on paper.

Next prompt is sounds which was perfect because Mary meets Dickon when he plays the flute. 🙂 The illustration is drawn on paper and colored with Acryl, Polychromo colored Pencils and aquarell colors.
