I am a day late for this posting, I am very sorry. The cold is still hanging on to me. But today I feel a lot better. I have written three magazine spreads I will post soon on my Blog. But first they are sent out to apply for a job. Thats why I won’t release them on here right now. But I want to do a weekly magazine spread for you all to read. So the weekly update will switch to a weekly magazine spread. The article will be written in english and german. The topics will be historical, funny, parenthood, knitting and anything that catches my interest. I…

    Weekly update – Short Info

Hello everyone! Last week I have been quite busy with building my new Portfolio. And I have done quite a lot. This week however is going to be completely different. I have a cold and havent been feeling well. So I hope I can be a little bit productive and get at least some work done. Last week I wrote and illustrated a magazine spread which I will be posting on friday. Also with a progress video on youtube if I manage to concentrate. I also worked a lot with ink and I really like the look of it. I think I will stick to illustrating with ink a little…

    All ink – weekly update

This week, I worked with ink only. And it was quite freeing. Having only one medium to work with helped me a lot with my illustrating progress. As much as I like colorful illustrations, I often struggle a lot with those. Reducing colors to maybe 3 or 4 in one illustration is probably better for me. (and my sanity 😀 ) I wanted to do a magazine spread with illustrations of mine and also an article written by myself. And because I am currently in knitting fever, I wrote about the benefits of knits. And there are a lot. If you have anxiety or depression, doing knit work helps you…

Exciting news – Update on becoming an author

Hello Lovleys! I have some good news! As you all might remember, I have been busy writing my first novel for a few month now. And I have sent my draft to some agencies for a review. I was very lucky to get a reply and an in depth review of what I have been writing. And I was crying my eyes out reading the answer. Not because it was bad, but because I was praised! And I was advised to build up my writing skills and work on sharpening my story. And to not stop writing because I have potential. It was the first time hearing that my dream…

Autumn is here – weekly update

Autumn has arrived, my favorite season. There is nothing more soothing, than rainy weather, working and having a coffee. Last week, I had time to illustrate. I worked with ink and aquarelle colors. And after not drawing for almost 4 month it felt a little bit rusty. My hands are shaky and it shows in the line art. So I have to work on a lot to get better. I also have to try out different papers and inks or maybe even colored liners. So I will be heading to the craft supply store soon. But first I have to do some research and try more combinations. On behalf of…

Weekly Update – Criticizing my own work

This week I finished the Artwork for the last Unicorn based on the novel by Peter S. Beagle. I am mostly happy with the result, but I am also my biggest critic. So I thought, I would share my own opinion on my work with you all. First things first, I loved the finished sketch. But one of my biggest nemesis is coloring. I worked for a long time mostly in black and white. I personally would not dare to use bright colors at all. As a result, the color choices I made are all quite deluded. (except for the red bull of course) It’s is not bad but I…

Coloring „The last unicorn“ – Weekly update

This week, I started coloring my previous sketch. The process is going slow and by Sunday I had half of the illustration colored. Hopefully I can finish the illustration this week. I feel like coloring is the hardest part of illustrating because I am super careful with this step. I very happy how the red bull turned out, also Kind Haggard. But Mammy Fortuna is giving me a hard time. I love the color palette but I also think she definitely needs more contrast. I hope the overall coloration will work out the way I want it to be. This is probably the hardest part. I maybe even put a…

The Last Unicorn Artwork – Weekly Update

Last week, I made a Characterdesign of Schmedrick the magician from the Novel „The Last Unicorn“ by Peter S.Beagle. This week, I wanted to create a complete Artwork of all the main characters in the Novel. The reason was my eldest daughter, she wanted to know what the others looked like, because I am currently reading this book to her. So I thought a collage of all of them would be cool. I was able to document the whole progress of sketching and drawing the final lines on my IGTV Channel. If you’d like to watch the progress, feel free to watch it on my instagram. (monia.baillieu) The highlights of…

Weekly update – The Last Unicorn

Happy Easter to all of you! I hope you all had a wonderful time! This week I worked on a character design for the book: The last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I am reading this book to my eldest daughter and she requested to know how Schmendrick the magician looked like. Or how I thought he’d looked like. Schmendrick is described as a wizard, that looks munch younger than his age and he has no beard. Which is often one of the reasons he is not taken seriously by others. I imagined him as tall and more of the goofy type. The illustration is colored with Aquarell colors and…
